Who are the 10 most important people you want to deepen a relationship with, and how does every element of the event serve that goal?

Events that feel meaningful - where donors feel seen, connected to mission, and inspired rather than just sold to - generate far more long-term value than transactional galas. Design the program, seating, and follow-up with cultivation in mind, not just check sizes.

Reach out to a peer you admire. Schedule coffee with a potential collaborator. Follow up with someone you met at a conference months ago.

Relationships built in the good times are the ones that show up in the hard times. Don't wait until you need something to invest in connection.

CREATE A SUCCESSION PLAN

@everyone Many nonprofits are one resignation away from crisis - particularly if the executive director or a key program lead holds all the institutional knowledge. A succession plan doesn't mean expecting people to leave; it means ensuring the mission can outlast any individual.

Document critical processes, cross-train staff on key functions, and identify internal leaders who could step up. Even a basic plan reduces panic and board anxiety when transitions happen, as they always eventually do.
